See What Banking Methods are Available Instead of Paypal to Bet Online

Can I use Paypal to fund an online betting account?

Unfortunately for Canadians the answer no.  Paypal is probably the most popular way to transfer money and pay for things online.  Although some sportsbooks accept Paypal and display their logo as a mark of acceptance to process deposits and withdrawals customer accounts, this is only actually available for sportsbook customers in certain European countries.  Paypal’s internal policies dictate that it will not process transactions for Canadians to betting sites or other types of online gaming like poker or casino sites.

If you would like to use a similar solution where you can link a bank account to a Paypal-like service, companies like Instadebit, ClickandBuy & iDebit are widely accepted by Canadian-friendly betting sites.  These allow you to securely and instantly debit funds from your account with no waiting.  The transactions are nearly instant.

If you’ve ever used the Interac Email Transfer from your online banking profile and like its simplicity, Bodog offers it as a banking method and are the only ones to currently accept it.

If you would like the transaction to go on your credit card directly, you may use them with the sportsbook but all Canadian Credit Card companies view online betting transactions as cash advances, which means there are interest charges from the time of the transaction.  Alternatively, you can use your card as the original funding source but avoid cash advance charges, maintain privacy and security of your card with services called Entropay and EcoCard.  These services allow you to prepaid and/or vitual Visa and MasterCard cards respectively.  Since the prepaid card is what is being directly transacted with the online sportsbook, you will avoid making the direct “cash advance” transaction directly with your credit card.  In addition, your statement won’t show the gaming company itself but rather Entropay or EcoCard.  ClickandBuy is another service that allows you to pay with or link your credit card to your account with them to experience these same benefits.  With ClickandBuy, you can also link a bank account thus it is probably the most similar to Paypal in capability.  Instadebit is similar to ClickandBuy but it is solely focused on linking your bank account to their service for betting transactions.

If you prefer, you can transfer money directly from your bank to these betting sites through your bank.  It is extremely secure and there are essentially no transaction limits.  The betting site will display their bank details and a reference number, you simply share this information with your bank and the transfer will be completed in a few days.  Bodog is the only sportsbook in the world that accepts Interac money transfers which is less expensive than a wire transfer at about $1 or so per transfer.

Below you’ll see a full list of the accepted banking methods for each sportsbook that I list as the best for Canadians.  For a full understanding of the methods discussed here, please view how to deposit money into a betting site account.

About My Football Betting Listings:

Why is my list so brief?  I only list the sportsbooks that I consider to be the best for Canadians.  I researched nearly 30 companies. If I ranked them all, would you sign up with sportsbook number 22?  Not a chance!

Thus, I keep things simple.  If a company doesn’t measure up against my Canadian perspective, they don’t get listed.

Why could a sportsbook fail to get listed?  A record of withholding bettor funds or placing limits on the accounts of winning players, not offering Canadian Dollar betting or not offering mobile wagering solutions.

Each listed company has satisfied my review criteria, but there are differences in their service offerings, so read the reviews and choose based on your own preferences and requirements, not some fake rating scheme.

If you like to compare football odds and lines to get the highest possible payout, it probably makes sense to register with more than one site so that you can maximise your winnings.
